Blood Oath Pact No. 2

Review:

This is a combination of a 7 year high-rye bourbon (finished in port barrels), an 11 year wheated bourbon, and an 11 year high-rye bourbon.  I have become a bigger fan of rye as of late...most of the decent ryes seem very smooth and balanced to me.  Let's see how this little puppy tickles the ole pickle!  

Like always, I poured it neat and immediately shoved my nose into the glass to test the fumes straight from the bottle.  First draw had a very light amount of alcohol fumes and the smell is pretty damn amazing.  It is light and airy and has a great spicy aroma that is not at all pushy to the proboscis.  Man, I can't stop smelling it long enough to take a drink.  I look like Tony Montana from Scarface with a glassful of Colombian gold!  Hopefully the taste measures up to the nose.

Well let's get on with it already!  The first taste has hardly any burn to the lips and a low heat on the entire tongue, which smooths out even more on following samples.  The spice is there (a light vanilla and cinnamon mixture) while holding it in your mouth but is almost more prevalent on the finish.  This is a damn good bourbon, as I had hoped from a rye blend.  You can tell this is a mixture of decently aged selection, as it does not give a bit of recoil from nose to taste to finish.  Now with the hard work of writing this review complete, I can pour a glass and go watch a movie!

Is it worth the $?

I found this in Jacksonville, FL for $85.  In my opinion, this is a keeper....but a one time purchase to add to the collection and drink sparingly so you don't have to drop nearly $100 to replace it.  If this were closer to the $50 or even $60, I would own numerous bottles.  It does make me want to run out and try all the other available Blood Oath Pacts.
